GRAVITY X BASKETBALL
Phenomenon / Magazine
This magazine uses many different layouts and compositions to instill in the reader a sense of “Gravity”. To construct this print magazine, I used different font weights and basketball player’s photographs.
Font Choice

Trade Gothic

Compared with Gill Sans, Trade gothic is more narrow and tall. Its shoulders and curves are more squarish and abrupt. Trade Gothic reminds me of toothpaste--I can see the obviously smooth part of each character. Because Trade Gothic has height, it’s a natural choice for basketball players.

Gill Sans

The reason why I picked Gill Sans is that it is organic and not too heavy. I also want to represent feelings of weightlessness and speed. Gill Sans has round strokes in the structure of the lines, and it has a sharp cut at the end of each stroke. Overall, I think this typeface is a good choice to play with the transformation and twisting.
